Revolutionizing Manatee High School with AstroTurf A New Era for Hawkins Stadium at Joe Kinnan Field

As we approach the forthcoming football season at Manatee High School, we're thrilled to announce a game-changing transformation to our beloved Hawkins Stadium at Joe Kinnan Field. The final stages of AstroTurf installation are currently underway, propelling our athletics facility into a new era of innovation and excellence.

AstroTurf, or artificial turf, has seen a dramatic rise in popularity over the years, owing to its numerous benefits and adaptable uses across a range of sports. This state-of-the-art playing surface not only represents a significant leap in sports technology but also paves the way for a safer and more effective environment for our athletes to practice and compete.

Understanding AstroTurf

AstroTurf, invented in the 1960s, replicates the feel and appearance of natural grass. Made from synthetic fibers, it is durable, weather-resistant, and requires minimal maintenance, unlike natural grass, which necessitates regular mowing, watering, and fertilizing.

The Benefits of AstroTurf

One of the most significant advantages of AstroTurf is its durability. It's designed to withstand intensive use, regardless of weather conditions. This means fewer canceled games or practices due to a waterlogged or frozen field. It also reduces maintenance costs and saves water, making it an eco-friendly option.

Furthermore, the latest AstroTurf models have been designed with player safety in mind. Advances in technology mean that the surface absorbs impacts better than ever, potentially reducing the risk of injuries.

Lastly, the uniformity of an artificial surface ensures a consistent bounce and roll of the ball, thereby increasing the fairness of games and eliminating field-related advantages or disadvantages.

Installation of AstroTurf

The process of installing AstroTurf involves several stages:

  1. Ground Preparation: The existing surface is removed and the ground is leveled to create a suitable base.

  2. Drainage System: A proper drainage system is installed to prevent water accumulation on the field.

  3. Base Construction: Several layers of aggregates are spread to form a stable, robust base.

  4. Installation of the Turf: The AstroTurf is then rolled out, adhered, and seamed together.

  5. Infill Addition: Sand and rubber granules are spread out across the turf, providing additional shock absorbency and replicating the feel of natural grass.

  6. Final Touches: The turf is brushed to distribute the infill evenly and ensure the fibers stand upright.

AstroTurf Comes to Hawkins Stadium at Joe Kinnan Field

As we move into the final stages of installation, we are eager to see the new AstroTurf transform Hawkins Stadium at Joe Kinnan Field into a premier athletic venue. This upgrade will not only improve the quality of play but will also enhance the overall football experience for both our players and fans.

Stay tuned for the unveiling of our new and improved field. We're excited about the future of Manatee High School Football and we can't wait to see our Hurricanes take to the field and make us proud. Here's to an exciting, fast-paced, and dynamic football season ahead!

First, let me thank you for using Hawkins Stadium. My Greatgrandfather Aldine Kiefer Hawkins would be proud. He had seven daughters and no sons so when he got triplet Gransons(Tom , Dick and Harry Breeze who all played football, he was one proud Grandfather. He was instrumental in donating a tidy sum toward construction and the land for stadium for MHS and raised additional funding to complete a first class stadium for the canes. During the Kinnan years which were very Successful, Joe Kinnans Name was added to the field. Daddy Hawk would be proud of the Astroturf...........
