Coach Shakir heads into his fourth season after leading Manatee to its 12th consecutive playoff appearances and Manatee’s first playoff win last season since 2014 in 2018 and in 2019 led Manatee to its first District Championship since 2015. In three years, 26 players from Manatee have continued playing football at the next level.

Shakir was a High School Football All-American at Tallahassee Lincoln. He was the only player in the talent rich State of Florida to be ranked in state recruiting services at two different positions in 1995. Shakir was a 1st Team All-Big Bend and a 1st Team All-State player in Class 6A and an honorable mention USA Today All-American.
Shakir received several Division I-A scholarship offers. Shakir graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Western Illinois University. Shakir then moved on to teaching and coaching at his alma mater, Tallahassee Lincoln High School.

Coach Shakir holds twenty years of football coaching experience. He is a nationally recognized Head Coach, digital sport content innovator, and master strategist in high school and collegiate athletics. Shakir altered the coaching landscape in Florida by winning the state championship in 2010, during his tenure as Head Coach at Tallahassee Lincoln High School as well as leading his 2012 team to a State Runner-up finish. Also, Shakir was the Defensive Co-Coordinator on Lincoln’s 2001 State Championship team. From 2007 to 2008, Shakir led Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Fl to back to back winning seasons and playoff appearances for only the second time in school history which was the last time Gibbs competed in the playoffs in consecutive seasons.

Shakir specializes in fostering academic success and has helped 124 players earn college scholarships. Since his first year as a Head Coach in 2007, 23 former players signed professional contracts. Both of these skills demonstrate a commitment to excellence on and off the field.

103-54 overall coaching record in 13 seasons an average of 12 games per season.
Coach Shakir’s awards and honors are numerous, including:
-Nike Coach of the year 2010
-3 time District Coach of the year. District 14 once, District 3 twice.
-Former Director of State Football District 3 for 6 seasons & Currently on District 16.
-Voted onto the State Football Advisory Committee by my peers to represent Big-Bend area of the state. Former Section 1 Representative. Current District 3 representative.
