Director of Strength and Conditioning

Coach Phillips brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience to the Manatee High Staff, as both a player and coach. He has coached football and been a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate and high school levels: BCS (Offensive Coordinator), Granada High School (Defensive and Passing Game Coordinator), University of California Berkeley (Strength and Conditioning, Defense), Los Angeles Pierce College (Defensive Coordinator), Wagner College (Defensive Backs, Special Teams) and Santa Monica High (Defensive Backs). In his tenure at Cal the Golden Bears had the 4th most active players in the NFL and went to the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl. Granada High went to the California NCS Finals and were the Matadors first ever undefeated EBAL League Champs. Pierce College won its first American Pacific Conference Championship in 20 years and ranked 2nd in the APC in total defense with Phillips coordinating the defense. The Wagner Seahawks ranked 1st in the NEC in Total Defense and Pass Defense, while ranking 3rd Nationally in Pass Defense and 6th in Scoring Defense, while Corner Al Phillips was selected as an All-American and signed as a free agent by the NY Jets.

Josh played football and ran track at Yale University where he majored in Psychology, minored in Religious Philosophy, and won an Ivy League Championship. After college Phillips played professional football for the NFL-Houston Texans, NFLE- Amsterdam Admirals and AFL-Chicago Rush. He was blessed to acquire two masters degrees post bachelors, an MBA from Wagner College and MS in Kinesiology Biomechanics from Cal State Northridge. Josh is so thankful to have the opportunity to pour into these atheletes and help them grow as young men, not only as a coach and teacher at BCS, but as the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Manatee County Area Rep. Josh lives in Sarasota Florida with his wife Traci and their cats.
